$YOURMOM Token: Peter Todd's Humor Shook the Crypto World

Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd has recently come to the fore in an HBO documentary with the claim that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.

Although Todd publicly denied this claim, the crypto community did not hesitate to produce various meme coins associated with him. A sarcastic reply from Todd to an X (formerly Twitter) user became a viral meme coin, gaining more than 130% in value in the last 24 hours.

What sparked this incident was when a user asked Todd the names of his pets. Todd’s sarcastic answer to this question quickly gained a lot of attention, as meme coins named after animals are popular in the crypto world.

Todd told the user that his pet’s name was “your mom.” This response meant a new opportunity for meme token creators, and a meme token with the “YourMom” token was quickly created on the Solana blockchain.

Following this development, $YOURMOM token experienced a great rise in a short time. According to GeckoTerminal data, the token is up over 4000% and has rapidly gained value since its launch on October 9.

The token is currently trading at $0.002647 and its total market cap has reached $2.4 million. Following this rise, four different meme tokens bearing Todd’s name were created within the Solana ecosystem. Todd’s picture was even used as the symbol for some tokens.

This incident had similarly occurred before with meme tokens named after Len Sassaman. On the Polymarket platform, tokens based on Sassaman and his cats Odin and Sasha, who were shown as the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, were created.

However, when Peter Todd was introduced as Satoshi Nakamoto in the HBO documentary, meme coins based on Sassaman suffered a great loss of value. According to CoinMarketCap data, the token named after Sassaman’s cat Sasha lost 88.21% in value in the last 24 hours, while the meme token based on Odin also dropped by nearly 90%.

The documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery”, which aired on HBO on October 8, pointed to Todd as the creator of Bitcoin. The producer of the documentary, Cullen Hobak, cited some of Todd’s online posts as the basis for these allegations.

In one of Todd’s posts, he introduced himself as “the world’s leading expert on how to sacrifice your Bitcoins”, fueling speculation that he was Satoshi. The documentary also included the claim that Todd accidentally made a post from Satoshi Nakamoto’s account on the BitcoinTalk forum in 2010.

However, Peter Todd has long denied these allegations. Todd, who faced many speculations before the release of the documentary, clearly wrote “I am not Satoshi” in response to a user on X on October 8 asking him to deny HBO’s claims.

Although these events fueled the ongoing debate over Todd’s identity, the fact that a sarcastic response from Todd turned into such a huge meme coin has taken its place as a remarkable event in the crypto world.
