SK Telecom Steps into Web3 with USDT

SK Telecom Steps into Web3 with USDT

Aptos Foundation collaborated with SK Telecom, one of South Korea's largest telecom operators, to integrate Tether's USDT stablecoin into SK Telecom's web3 product "T wallet".

The aim of this integration is to expand stablecoin access and facilitate access to digital assets through a platform that millions of SK Telecom customers are already familiar with.

According to Friday’s press release shared by the Aptos Foundation, the integration will be supported by SK Telecom’s popular PASS application, allowing users to easily access USDT via the Aptos blockchain. Thus, a bridge will be established between traditional financial systems and the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.

This partnership between Aptos Foundation and SK Telecom is seen as an important step towards mainstream adoption of web3. Oh Sehyeon, vice president of SK Telecom’s web3 division, emphasized that they aim to offer digital assets and decentralized networks to more people by working together with leading web3 players such as Tether.

Sehyeon stated that this vision was shaped by SK Telecom’s decades of experience in the telecom field and that the company wants to take a reliable role in the blockchain field.

The integration targets SK Telecom’s large user base of more than 30 million customers by positioning the T wallet as an entry point to stablecoin usage. Thus, T wallet users will be able to make safer and lower-cost transactions.

Tether added support to Aptos Network in mid-August, and the “strong developer community” of the blockchain platform was influential behind this support expansion.

Tether pointed out that developer activity on Aptos is rapidly increasing and more and more smart contracts are being deployed on the blockchain.

Tether also stated that the low transaction fees offered by Aptos make the platform accessible to a wide range of users, and this is suitable for a wide range of uses, from micro transactions to large-scale corporate operations.

This partnership between Aptos and SK Telecom has significant potential for the expansion of stablecoin use and blockchain-based financial services in the South Korean market.

South Korea is a very open market to digital technologies and especially blockchain innovations, and the easy access provided by this integration will offer local users a new experience in using stablecoins.

SK Telecom plans to offer broader financial services to its users by taking advantage of the advantages provided by web3 and blockchain technologies. With this collaboration, Aptos focuses on expanding the stablecoin ecosystem and increasing use cases on blockchain.

This collaboration, which takes place in a country open to innovation like South Korea, is considered an important step in the adoption of blockchain technology and stablecoins.

Aiming to strengthen the bridges between traditional finance and decentralized systems, Aptos and SK Telecom aim to reach more users and expand the use of stablecoins with this step.
