New Phishing Threat to Phantom Wallet users

New Phishing Threat to Phantom Wallet users

Crypto scammers use Phantom Wallet users and use malicious pop-ups that appear to be real update requests.

When users approve these pop-ups fake, scammers can evacuate assets by seizing their wallet access.

According to Web3 Security Company Smam Sniffer, Phishing scammers apply a new tactic to deceive Phantom Wallet owners. Users encounter a fake pop-up that seems to be a request to update their wallets.

In Pop-Up, they are asked to give a confirmation to update the Phantom Wallet extension. When users give this approval, a window opened asks them to enter Seed Phrase. If the user provides this information, the scammers take over all control of the wallet and attract assets.

Sam Sniffer emphasized that Phantom Wallet users should never share their Seed Phrase and that they should only do their extension updates through the official web store in the Chrome browser.

Non-Custical wallets, such as Phantom Wallet, leave the user’s special switches completely to him. Although this increases safety, it is not possible for users to get back their wallets if they lose their Seed Phrase or cause them to get into the wrong hands. Therefore, scammers are trying to steal Seed Phrase directly by deceiving users.

Such fake pop-ups were previously presented only through fake websites that mimic the interface of Phantom Wallet. However, according to SCAM Sniffer, fraudsters are now directly connected to their real Phantom wallets and make their attacks more convincing.

Since users think they are in a reliable environment, it is difficult to realize fraud.

Phantom users can distinguish fake pop-ups with some tips. Real Phantom Wallet Pop-ups behave like system windows and can be reduced, enlarged or resized. However, the fake ones remain constant in the browser tab and do not move like a system window.

Another point that users should pay attention to is to try the right -click on the link. Phishing pages usually disable the right -click and prevent users from examining URLs. However, real Phantom Pop-ups do not contain such restrictions.

In addition, users may notice fraud by checking URL. Real Phantom Extension Pop-ups always start with “Chrome Extension: //” Prefix and Phishing websites cannot mimic this format.

Therefore, Phantom users need to carefully examine the source of pop-ups and act consciously to ensure their safety.

Recently, Phantom users have not only encountered Phishing attacks, but also technical problems. An update for Phantom’s iOS application recently contained a critical error.

The update has reset some users to lose their access to their accounts by resetting their wallets. Users had to enter recovery statements to reopen their wallets.

Although the Phantom team published a patch by correcting the problem in a short time, some users who lost access expressed their concerns about the risks caused by unexpected technical mistakes in non-Custical wallets.

Phantom was released in 2021 as a wallet developed for the Solana network. The wallet, which has become popular in a short time with its user -friendly interface and web3 -oriented structure, has gained a very chained structure in recent months.

Phantom no longer supports not only the Solana network, but also Blockchain, such as Ethereum Layer 2 Base and Layer 1 Network Sui. This enlargement has enabled Phantom to adopt more by users in different ecosystems.

The company completed a major financing tour last month to maintain its growth. Phantom received $ 150 million in a series C Fishing tour with the support of large investment companies such as Sequoia Capital, Paradigm and A16z Crypto.

This fund will be used to increase security measures, improve user experience, and provide new Blockchain integrations. Phantom is expected to continue to expand the ecosystem and reach more users in the world of web3.
