Panama: Pay with Bitcoin, jump the channel order! Striking suggestion from the mayor
Panama Mayor Mizrachi suggested that the ships paying with Bitcoin be given the right to quickly pass through the Panama Canal. The country is approaching El Salvador's crypto model.
Crypto move from Panama: Pay with Bitcoin, jump in the duct on the channel!
Panama Mayor Mizrachi proposed to give priority to ships paying with Bitcoin in the transition from the channel. Target: To encourage Bitcoin in global trade.
Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi raised a system that will allow the ships paying with Bitcoin to pass faster than the Panama Canal. The proposal was announced on May 29 at a panel with El Salvador’s Bitcoin policy officials at the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas.
“Ships paying with Bitcoin should gain priority. Channel in our hands, we can turn it into an advantage.”
🚢 Panama Canal and Global Trade
The Panama Canal is a strategic maritime route, which connects the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean and passes about 10,000 ships per year.
In the financial year of 2023–2024, it generated $ 5 billion in revenue.
It reduces the journey for weeks to the days for freight ships.
The proposal to pay with Bitcoin means a digital priority description for ships using this sea road.
🇵🇦 Panama’s Bitcoin opening
Panama City has recently adopted a law that accepts crypto in taxes and public payments.
Mizrachi also proposes to establish a Bitcoin reserve for the city.
These moves are part of the efforts to make Panama a new Bitcoin center that follows in the footsteps of El Salvador.
“The future of Panama will be drawn with Bitcoin. If the legislative process remains slow, we will walk from the front.”
🧭 Legislative Process: “Do not touch, work”
Mizrachi called to the Country Assembly:
“Do not edit the crypto immediately. Let it work freely. Then determine the needs.”
It proposes a free trial area instead of regulation.
🌐 Geopolitical Size: US and Chinese tension
In December 2024, Trump announced that China wanted to take back the control of the Panama Canal, citing the impact of China.
Mizrachi’s proposal can also be read as an effort to provide an impartial, free and digital solution with Bitcoin against these developments.
📉 Social Crisis and Bitcoin Vision
In Panama recently, after Chiquita’s dismissal of 5,000 workers, it was declared extraordinary in the state of Bocas Del Toro.
According to Mizrachi, Bitcoin may be not only technology, but also a way of salvation that offers economic alternatives.
