Optimism’s “Season 8” Vision: Centrality, Simplicity, Participation

Ethereum Layer-2 Network Optimism aims to make the ecosystem more decentralized and more accessible with the “Season 8” governance reform, which will enter into force on August 1, 2025.

The prominent innovations in the blog post are as follows:

Automatic approval mechanism: It will be accepted automatically unless the bids are vetoed.

New stakeholder groups: Apart from the token owners, users, applications and chains will have the right to vote.

Citizenship Definition: A new citizenship structure that can be verified on the chain is being commissioned.

🧩 Two Parliamentary Model: Token House + Citizens ’House

Optimism management has been operating with a two -parliamentary system since 2022:

Token House:

Voting right is determined according to the amount of token.

Protocol upgrades, sequencer elections, fund allocation.

Citizens ’House:

Every individual has only one vote.

It represents community participation, social impact projects and ethical control.

The definition of “Citizenship” can now be open to public and onchain can be verified.

While these structures are preserved in the new period, the developer Advisory Board will take decisions on behalf of two parliament in the technical protocol updates.

✅ How will the automatic approval process work?

OPTIMISTIC APPROVAL (optimistic approval) process with offers:

Veto will be considered as spontaneously accepted unless he arrives.

Participants will be able to ensure the healthy operation of the system without reading all documents.

Moreover:

Source budgets will be recommended by the budget board and valid unless vetoed.

In this way, participation in management will be no longer a burden that requires “full-time overtime”.
