No Room for Crypto in Trump's Interview!
For a while, bettors evaluated the probability of Donald Trump mentioning digital assets during an interview as more than 60 percent. However, former President Donald Trump did not address bitcoin (BTC) or cryptocurrency in his interview with X CEO Elon Musk on Monday evening.
In the wide-ranging interview, which lasted more than two hours, various topics such as illegal immigration, economy, artificial intelligence and global warming were discussed. The interview drew more than 1 million listeners and was delayed more than 45 minutes due to what Musk described as a “massive distributed denial-of-service attack against X.”
Regarding the attack in question, Musk said, “This massive attack shows that there is great opposition to people who just want to hear what President Trump says.” However, a report from The Verge questioned whether the attack was real.
According to the publication, the source claimed that Musk lied about the attack and said, “There is a 99 percent probability that Musk is lying.” An alert from cybersecurity watchdog Netblocks stated that X Spaces was experiencing international outages, although it was not confirmed whether this was a DDOS attack.
At Polymarket, bettors placed a 65 percent chance of the word “crypto” being mentioned during the interview, and more than $600,000 was bet on the topic. The prediction market also added another market for betting on the likelihood of the word “bitcoin” being mentioned, with the odds rising as high as 69 percent at nearly $330,000.
Each stake pays out $1 in USDC (a stablecoin with parity with the US dollar) or cryptocurrency if the prediction is correct, otherwise no payout. Polymarket did not offer markets for coining possibilities of other digital assets such as ether, solana or dogecoin.
Bettors had bet more than $250,000 that Trump would use the word “Tesla” and the odds were as high as 79 percent. But Trump avoided using a specific word, instead referencing Musk’s electric vehicle brand as “your cars.”
Other words Trump said in the interview include “MAGA,” “illegal immigrant” and “ped.” One user, ‘bama1234’, earned more than $1 million by correctly guessing the words Trump said or did not say in the interview.
Their biggest bet was that Trump wouldn’t use the word “crypto,” which netted him a winnings of $336,918. The user was not betting that Trump would say the word “MAGA” during the interview, which was used by Trump early on.
He also predicted the word “Transgender” would be mentioned, but Trump did not use the word. While cryptocurrency has become an election issue with Trump making a crypto policy announcement at the recent BTC 2024 conference in Nashville, it still hasn’t been mentioned at mainstream events like the first presidential debate in June.
