New York is investigating Blockchain in the elections
In the New York Province, a parliamentary member presented an official bill to investigate how blockchain technology can be used to protect voter data in the US elections.
This bill, presented by Clyde Vanel member of the Assembly, was recorded as Assembly Bill AA7716. The main purpose of the bill is to assure the potential of blockchain technology to secure voters’ personal data and to protect the election results.
According to the bill, the New York State Election Board will be assigned to conduct an official study on how blockchain technology can be used in the election process. In this study, issues such as protecting voter information against external interventions, increasing the transparency of the results and ensuring the integrity of data will be prominent.
The draft law is currently being examined at the New York State Assembly’s Election Law Committee and is waiting for the vote in the legislative process. If it passes through the committee, it will be presented to the General Assembly of the Assembly and then to the state level.
In the last stage, the governor will be subjected to approval. If accepted, the Election Board must cooperate with the IT Services Office and receive support from experts in areas such as Blockchain, Cyber Security, Election Systems and Voter Fraud.
The bill requires that the results of this study be reported within one year at the latest after the law enters into force. In addition, this report is expected to include examples of how other states have implemented similar technological practices.
Clyde Vanel is a name that has long been advocating for crypto currencies and blockchain technology. Previously, in 2017, he proposed a similar law; However, that bill could not be enacted.
Recently, together with Adrian Boafo of Maryland, he launched a joint attempt by democratic politicians to develop regulations on crypto currencies at the federal level.
The use of blockchain technology to ensure election security has become increasingly attracted to the world in recent years.
In March 2024, an open-source Zero-Qnowledge registration network, Rarimo, introduced a blockchain-based digital identity protocol, Freedom Tool. This tool aims to make selection systems more transparent, safe and anonymous.
Unlike traditional voting methods, Freedom Tool combines identity management and blockchain infrastructure to ensure both anonymous and verification of votes.
In October 2024, the opposition party in Georgia launched an identity of United Space, a supported Rarimo -supported United Space before the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Thanks to this application, a voters were presented a election environment for external interventions that did not violate their privacy. The application also provided anonymity at a level that traditional systems could not offer.
The draft law in New York points out that technological solutions for election security throughout the US may increase. The integration of Blockchain into selection systems may pave the way for safer and transparent voting processes in the future.
