European Union law enforcement authorities have undertaken a significant operation to disrupt ransomware attacks. In the operation organized by Europol and called "Operation Endgame", a hacker gang that helped ransomware attackers inject their malicious codes into the system was brought down. As part of the operation, which took place between May 27 and 29, four people were arrested and more than 100 servers linked to hackers and malware developers were seized. Europol announced that this operation was "the largest operation against botnets".

Botnets are a frequently used method in cybercrime, including ransomware attacks. These networks, consisting of interconnected computers, become a major cyber threat when they come under the control of attackers. It was announced that the botnets seized thanks to Europol’s operation were IcedID, SystemBC, Pikabot, Smokeloader, Bumblebee and Trickbot. These programs, known as “droppers”, start running in the background by infiltrating computers through methods such as phishing links via e-mail. Then, attackers can commit cybercrimes such as ransomware attacks by injecting malicious codes into the system through these programs.

Law enforcement forces from Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States participated in the Europol operation, which made a significant progress in the fight against cybercrime.

US politicians are increasingly increasing their interest in the cryptocurrency world. One of these names is Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz announced in a Twitter post on May 31 that he was getting into Bitcoin mining. Sharing photos of three Bitcoin mining devices in the post, Cruz stated that he purchased these devices to mine Bitcoin. Known for his long-standing support for Bitcoin, Cruz advocates for Texas to become a magnet for cryptocurrency mining. In January 2023, he even presented a solution proposing that only vending machines and food service contractors that offer cryptocurrency payment options should be allowed in the US Capitol.

El Salvador continues its steps towards integrating cryptocurrencies into daily life. However, an interesting development took place in the country. A hotel developer aiming to build a Hampton by Hilton near El Salvador International Airport has failed in its attempt to raise funds through tokenization. According to the news brought to the agenda by Protos, Inversiones Laguardia S.A. de C.V. Hotel developer (HILSV) had difficulty meeting its target budget of $6.25 million. Although the 30-day fundraising period is half over, only $342,000 has been collected so far.

In the fundraising campaign carried out through Bitfinex Securities El Salvador, investors were expected to provide funds for the construction of an 80-room hotel with a pool, restaurant and gym. It is claimed that investors will earn an annual return of 10 percent in the campaign, which is carried out through a five-year debt security instrument. While the minimum investment amount is determined as 1,000 dollars, those who invest 1 million dollars are offered free accommodation throughout the year.
