Making Music Is Child's Play Now: Create the Song of Your Dreams with Suno

Making Music Is Child's Play Now: Create the Song of Your Dreams with Suno

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has made revolutionary developments in many areas of our lives in recent years. The music industry has also started to get its share of this change. Suno, a new platform that enables music production on command, attracted the attention of venture capital investors and increased the excitement in this field by raising $125 million in funding.

Suno’s ambitious goal is to provide everyone with the opportunity to make music easily. In the announcement made on May 21, it was stated that the funds will be used for product development and team expansion. The company made this announcement with a song produced by artificial intelligence specifically for this day.

Suno’s journey actually started eight months ago with the launch of its first products that offered the ability to create songs based on simple text commands. Currently, the platform allows users to enter text commands based on their desired “song description.” Users can also choose whether they want vocals in their songs.

After the artificial intelligence creates the song according to the commands given, it also produces customizable album covers and titles. Suno also allows users to replace the artificial intelligence-generated lyrics with their own words or extend the original track.

Suno claims 10 million people use its platform, including Grammy-winning artists. This claim aside, Suno also managed to make a splash on social media. One X user called the platform a “gift” for being able to easily create a song for her child.

However, Suno is not the first platform to step into this field. In the summer of 2023, technology giants such as Google and Meta, which are pioneers in artificial intelligence technology, also launched their own artificial intelligence music creation platforms.

While Google’s MusicFX platform creates 30-second tracks, one of its biggest advantages is that Suno users can create music up to two minutes long. The different parts and chord progressions Suno offers also give the songs a more musical feel.

While music production with artificial intelligence is an exciting innovation, it has raised copyright concerns in the music industry. Giant companies such as Universal Music and Sony are fighting against artificial intelligence music developers to protect the copyrights of their artists.

Popular music YouTuber Rick Beato brought up this issue in a recent video with futurist Ted Gioia. Beato coined the term “ghost music” as AI music floods streaming platforms like Spotify and generates revenue through royalties. This could negatively impact the income of real musicians.

It is understandable that musicians are cautious about artificial intelligence. A survey last year found that more than half of musicians surveyed were concerned about audience perceptions of the use of AI.

Although it is difficult to predict how music production with artificial intelligence will shape the music industry in the coming years, the exciting potential of this technology is undeniable. The development of platforms such as Suno may lead to the acceleration of innovations in this field and the emergence of completely different music genres to listeners in the future. However, this technology must be handled carefully from ethical and legal perspectives.
