It was confirmed by the court that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto!
Judge James Mellor issued his written decision on Monday, stating that Craig Wright lied "extensively and repeatedly" in written and oral evidence presented in the Crypto Open Patent Alliance case in which he identified himself as Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin.
Mellor also stated that an injunction, which is a legal remedy used to stop a defendant from doing something, will be discussed at a Forms Issue hearing to be held after the verdict is issued.
In his decision in March, Mellor concluded that Wright was not the inventor of Bitcoin under the pseudonym Nakamoto and was not the author of the white paper known as the basic document of the cryptocurrency.
“I want to thank everyone who sent me messages of support yesterday. I will await the written decision and then consider my appeal options,” Wright said on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) in March.
Although the decision can be appealed, Mellor’s final decision, after months of hearings, was a source of joy for the cryptocurrency market, which has long been critical of and negatively impacted by Wright’s lawsuits against community members.
After both sides presented their evidence at the hearing, Mellor said, “Dr. Wright is not the person who adopted or used the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto between 2008 and 2011. Third, Dr. Wright is not the person who created the Bitcoin System. Fourth, it is clear that early versions of the Bitcoin software were “is not the author.” said.
The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), whose stated mission is to protect cryptocurrency adoption and combat threats to new technology, filed to sue Wright in 2021. The trial began on February 5, and COPA charged Wright with forgery and later perjury.
“I am fully confident that Dr. Wright lied extensively and repeatedly to the Court,” Mellor said. “Most of his lies involved false documents attempting to support his claim.”
COPA, which has backers including Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase (COIN), said it would seek several injunctions to prevent Wright from claiming to be Nakamoto and taking Bitcoin developers back to court.
He also said UK prosecutors may consider whether to bring perjury charges against Wright during the trial.
“Attempts to prove that Dr. Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto represent the most serious abuse of this Court’s process. The same applies to other jurisdictions, particularly Norway,” Mellor said in his decision. he added. Wright also fought a nearly five-year legal battle against Norwegian Bitcoin investor Hodlonaut.
In March, Mellor ordered a freeze of £6 million ($7.6 million) on Wright’s assets to prevent him from evading costs from the COPA case or moving his assets offshore. According to the order, COPA’s costs in the case at the time amounted to £6.7 million.
