IOTA's Partnership with LayerZero: Step by Step to Web3

IOTA's Partnership with LayerZero: Step by Step to Web3

While blockchain technology has tremendous potential, there are significant barriers to communication and asset transfer between different chains. This creates a wall to innovation and limits the adoption of dApps (centralized applications) and DeFi (decentralized finance) solutions.

However, the IOTA Foundation is taking an important step to overcome these obstacles with its latest announcement. IOTA opens a new chapter in cross-chain collaboration by announcing the integration of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and the LayerZero cross-chain messaging protocol.

LayerZero is a pioneering protocol that enables secure and fast communication between different blockchains. This protocol achieved successful integration with the Shimmer network at the end of 2023. Now, by integrating with IOTA EVM, it offers its capabilities to a wider audience. This integration opens up brand new opportunities for developers.

LayerZero’s V2 Endpoint has been deployed on the IOTA EVM. In this way, developers can develop cross-chain applications (omnichain applications). These applications can seamlessly perform cross-chain messaging and asset transfer using OFT (ownership token) and ONFT (unique ownership token) standards.

Another important advantage offered by the LayerZero V2 protocol is that it allows permissionless interaction with more than 50 distributed ledger technologies (DLT) currently supported by IOTA EVM. This means that developers can use data and assets on different chains without restrictions. In this way, innovative dApps and DeFi solutions can emerge.

The IOTA Foundation is committed to building an ecosystem centered around developers. The LayerZero integration is a concrete example of this commitment. This integration facilitates collaboration between innovators within the IOTA ecosystem and the broader blockchain community. Developers can now develop more powerful and comprehensive applications by leveraging the potential offered by different chains under one roof.

With the LayerZero V2 integration, IOTA not only strengthens its technological capabilities, but also has the potential to become an important hub for decentralized applications (dApps) and decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. With seamless communication and asset transfer, developers can explore next-generation cross-chain collaboration opportunities. This could enable faster growth of dApps, yield opportunities, and projects within the IOTA ecosystem.

Thanks to its collaboration with LayerZero, IOTA not only facilitates cross-chain collaboration, but also shapes the future of Web3. Web3 is defined as the next stage of the decentralized internet and aims for an internet environment where data ownership belongs to the users. With LayerZero integration, IOTA is moving towards a more integrated and interoperable Web3 environment. This will allow users and developers to benefit more.

The IOTA community is eagerly awaiting the launch of the IOTA Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) in June. This launch will increase IOTA’s smart contract capabilities, offering more opportunities to developers.

In preparation for the launch, the IOTA Foundation worked with leading security auditing company Zokyo to conduct a comprehensive audit of IOTA Smart Contracts (ISC) in March 2024. In addition to identifying potential security vulnerabilities, this audit also aimed to comprehensively evaluate business logic and technical risks. IOTA Foundation once again proves the importance it attaches to security and code quality with this audit.
