Somnia Blockchain from Improbable: 400 Thousand Transaction Speed per Second!

Somnia Blockchain from Improbable: 400 Thousand Transaction Speed per Second!

UK-based metaverse technology company Improbable announced its new blockchain project Somnia, which will move to the DevNet phase in the coming weeks.

Improbable, known as the team that developed Yuga Labs’ popular Otherside platform, claims that the new blockchain technology can process more than 400,000 transactions per second.

He also states that Somnia will provide high performance to users with features such as low latency, low transaction fees and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility.

In his statement to CoinDesk, Improbable CEO Herman Narula stated that Somnia will provide high transaction capacity and allow more elements to be included in the chain.

Narula stated that blockchain technology has not been able to reach high performance standards for more than a decade and that incentives in this field are focused on short-term gains and that not enough effort has been made to solve real problems.

Stating that average transaction volumes remain low in some blockchain projects, Narula emphasized that technological developments in the sector are insufficient.

The Somnia blockchain project is managed by the Virtual Society Foundation, which Improbable launched in March, and is funded by the company’s interconnected metaverse network called M2. This network has the support of leading investors such as a16z and SoftBank.

Narula stated that he and his team have been carrying out research and development work on new technologies that can perform hundreds of thousands of transactions simultaneously for the last two years, and stated that this is extremely necessary for building real blockchain-based applications.

Narula used a restaurant analogy when explaining the current state of blockchain technology and the challenges in the industry.

“Parallel processing means hiring more waiters and serving more tables. “But if everyone’s orders start referencing each other, things will get worse,” said Narula, adding that they needed a very different solution to process billions of movement updates in a crowded area.

For this reason, he stated that the Somnia blockchain project aims to overcome the limitations of existing technology.

In a series of tweets in which he stated that the industry needs a more robust and high-capacity layer-1 blockchain technology, Narula said that current blockchain solutions are insufficient.

Narula, who resorted to an analogy such as allowing a waiter to serve more customers by increasing his speed, humorously defined this new project as “doping the EVM”.

Somnia’s high performance and wide scalability claim to set a new standard for metaverse-based applications and blockchain infrastructure.

Improbable aims to enable more users to transact on their digital assets and metaverse applications, especially with features such as high transaction speed, low cost and flexible compatibility.

If the project is successful, it is expected to be seen as a significant innovation in the blockchain field. Narula predicts that Somnia will appeal to a wide range of users and increase the applicability of blockchain-based solutions for real-world applications.

This ambitious blockchain initiative by Improbable shows that the industry has stepped into a new phase for high-capacity and scalable solutions.
