This difficult process that Gambaryan went through led members of the US Congress to request assistance from President Joe Biden’s administration to bring Gambaryan back to the United States. Gambaryan, a former Internal Revenue Service agent and Binance’s current head of financial crimes compliance, was detained after he voluntarily went to Nigeria in February.

Gambaryan, who maintained his innocence against the money laundering charges he was involved in, attracted attention when the tax charges he was previously facing were dropped in June. This situation raises important questions in terms of international law and human rights.
