Ethereum verifiers send signals for gas limit increase: 60 million units are on the agenda
An important change in Ethereum will increase the trading capacity. More than 150 thousand confirmants sent a signal of support to increase the block gas limit. The change does not require hard fork, it will be activated automatically with 50 %support.
🔧 A new technical transformation in Ethereum: Gas limit increase is on the agenda
There is a significant development aiming to expand the transaction capacity on the Ethereum network. More than 150,000 confirmatory, which constitutes approximately 15 %of the network, sent a signal to increase the gas limit per block. The aim is to increase the current 36 million gas unit limit to 60 million.
This data was announced to the public via Gaslimit.pics Panel developed by Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter.
📘 What is the gas limit? What does it mean in Ethereum?
In Ethereum, “gas” refers to the calculation power required for the operation of a transaction or smart contract. The “Gas Limit” defines the maximum process load that can be processed in a block. There are two different gas limits:
Procedure Based Gas Limit: The maximum amount of gas that each process can spend.
Block -based gas limit: This is the total gas limit that all operations can spend together in a block.
📦 For example: A block with a 36 million gas limit may include 360 transactions that spend 100,000 gas. When this limit is increased to 60 million, 600 operations in the same block become processable.
📊 Target: More transactions, more efficiency
Ethereum’s developer community, which wants to increase the transaction capacity of Layer 1 level, aims to process more transactions in each block with this change. Thanks to this increase:
Processing fees may fall potentially
Data volume per block increases
The overall efficiency of the network increases
⚙️ This update does not require hard fork
Such gas limit changes do not require changes in Ethereum’s core protocol. Verifiers can start the process by giving support signal through their own node configuration.
📈 If more than 50 %of the verifiers support the new limit, the system automatically moves to 60 million gas limits.
⏳ Past Limit Increases: Back
2021: 15 million → 30 million
2025 February: 30 million → 36 million
Now: target → 60 million
This last increase is in parallel with Ethereum’s long -term scaling goals.
⚠️ There are concerns: hardware load may increase
Some members of the developer community draw attention to the potential risks of this increase:
“The higher gas limit may cause node operators to need stronger equipment. This may threaten the center of decentralization of the network.”
When the capacity of NODEs to process block dimensions is forced, network synchronization problems or verification delays may occur.
🧭 Bitb refugee Review:
“Ethereum’s effort to overcome the technical limits is accelerating. However, each performance increase brings with it new questions to test the infrastructure. This change will test whether Ethereum can grow by preserving its non -central nature.”
