Do Crypto Wallets Obstacle Web3 Games?
Although Web3 games have attracted increasing attention in recent years, it is observed that some players are hesitant to try this new platform.
According to one study, more than 10% of respondents state that complex cryptocurrency wallets are the main reason they play Web3 games.
This poses a significant obstacle to the adoption of Web3 games. The gaming world is changing with evolving technology and the rise of digital assets; but user experience still remains a challenge.
Web3 gaming protocol Elympics has collaborated with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and PlayToEarn, which tracks blockchain gaming data, to produce an industry report called “The Future of Web3 Gaming is Competitive: Global Gaming Report 2024.” This report examined the current state of blockchain-based games, collecting the opinions of 1,000 players around the world.
The report sought answers to questions such as why players prefer to play games and why some participants have not tried blockchain-based games. Research results showed that over 10% of respondents said complex crypto wallets were the biggest reason they did not play blockchain games.
Among other findings of the survey, 7.3% said they did not understand the value of Web3 games, while 2.4% said they were content with Web2 games. Additionally, 9.1% stated that blockchain-based games do not appeal to them.
Among the reasons players give for playing games, airdrops and the potential to earn money stand out. In addition, the opportunity to compete with other players was also mentioned by many participants. Elympics CEO Michal Dabrowski admits that Web3 games have difficulty appealing to mainstream gamers.
However, Dabrowski thinks a significant change is underway in this area. “The entry of infrastructure players like TON into the Web3 gaming space introduces powerful social distribution networks and connected communities,” says Dabrowski.
It is predicted that high-quality games will attract more attention as developers choose to make more games within Web3. Although the complexity of crypto wallets prevents some players from trying Web3 games, projects such as The Open Network (TON) are working to overcome this obstacle.
On April 19, TON Foundation investment director Justin Hyun stated that Telegram’s Mini Apps will become so useful that users will not notice it when interacting with crypto.
Since then, users have flocked to the TON ecosystem and started playing clicker games. Projects such as Hamster Kombat have managed to attract more than 300 million users by incorporating Telegram users into Web3 games.
Overcoming the complexities associated with Web3 games is of great importance to expand the user base in this field and persuade players to participate more. Developers’ ability to make Web3 games more accessible by offering user-friendly solutions will be a critical step for the future of this new gaming platform.
