Digital Incentive for Voter Participation with United Space Application

Digital Incentive for Voter Participation with United Space Application

According to an Alexa Blockchain report, United Space, powered by Rarimo technology, aims to increase low voter turnout by rewarding Georgian citizens through a blockchain-powered system.

While the app encourages participants to vote regardless of their political views, UNM plans to use the platform to pilot digitalization of government services and Universal Basic Income (UBI) if it wins the election. It is stated that the income generated through these practices will be returned to the citizens.

United Space is equipped with Rarimo’s zero-knowledge (ZK) protocol, offering a “liquid democracy” model that allows citizens to anonymously verify their identity and be rewarded.

United Space is actually a modified version of Rarimo’s ZK-based authentication solution called “Freedom Tool”.

What makes Freedom Tool different is that users can securely store their national identity information in an encrypted manner on the blockchain. This feature allows users to verify their identity data without revealing it to a central authority.

The purpose of developing the application is to provide a voting mechanism that protects citizens’ privacy rights when voting in elections. This blockchain-based system both secures users’ private information and helps protect the election process against manipulation.

The level of anonymity offered by the application is very important in the current political environment in Georgia, as Georgia has been facing criticism that it has moved away from democratic values in recent years and is moving closer to Russian influence.

To encourage participation in elections, the United National Movement has developed a program on the United Space app that offers rewards to citizens not only for voting but also for various forms of civic participation. Citizens who participate in the “Points and Ownership” program through the application can become shareholders at strategic points with the points they collect.

Party leader and member of parliament Giorgi Vashadze states that this practice can contribute to democracy not only in Georgia but also in other countries of the world. “United Space will make Georgia one of the strongest democracies in the world.

It will provide citizens with unprecedented privacy, access and ease of use when interacting with both the electoral system and day-to-day government services,” says Vashadze.

Rarilabs Director Kitty Horlick also points out that the application increases citizens’ participation in the democratic process and government services by making them direct stakeholders.

As elections approach in Georgia, innovative apps like United Space stand out as a way to encourage citizens’ participation in democracy.

Leveraging the power of blockchain technology, United Space offers the potential to protect democratic processes while allowing users to interact securely with government. These features show that the application may attract interest in countries struggling with similar problems outside Georgia.
