Crypto Conference Pressure on Kamala Harris from Democratic Donors

Crypto Conference Pressure on Kamala Harris from Democratic Donors

The crypto industry in the US is under significant pressure to get Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to speak at an upcoming crypto conference. This pressure has come to the fore due to former President Donald Trump's support for the crypto industry.

Major Democratic donors are pushing to get Kamala Harris to speak at a crypto conference in the United States this fall.

The basis for this pressure lies in Trump’s pro-crypto statements at the Bitcoin 2024 event held in Nashville, Texas last week. Trump’s support for the crypto industry has encouraged Democrats to take a more active role in this space.

Major Democratic donors are pushing to get crypto media company Blockworks to host Kamala Harris as a speaker at the upcoming crypto conference Permissionless III, according to a Decrypt report released today, July 30.

Permissionless III will take place in Salt Lake City on October 9-11. Blockworks founder Jason Yanowitz told Decrypt that “Kamala Harris was pressured to be at the event by some major Democratic donors,” but did not provide details on the identities of the people behind this pressure.

Important names such as a16z crypto founder Chris Dixon, Galaxy Digital CEO Michael Novogratz and Republican Tom Emmer are expected to attend the conference. Yanowitz stated that Blockworks aims to create a more bipartisan atmosphere at this year’s conference, while Bitcoin 2024 has a “Republican-dominated” tone.

In mid-July, a16z founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz announced that they supported former President Donald Trump and planned to donate to Trump’s supporters.

This support has led Democrats to take further steps to strengthen their presence in the crypto industry. Democratic megadonors like Novogratz think Harris will mount a “much tougher race” against Trump.

Although Kamala Harris’s stance on crypto has not yet been made public, the issue began to be discussed in the crypto industry after President Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the election race this fall.

On July 24, Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey noted that Kamala Harris had privately called Bitcoin “money for criminals,” citing a “major Democratic donor.” Such comments have become a major topic of discussion for those wondering about Harris’ stance on crypto.

This weekend, Harris’ campaign team reportedly reached out to leading US crypto companies such as Coinbase, Circle and Ripple Labs in an effort to “reboot” relationships with the industry. These steps are considered as part of Democrats’ efforts to increase their interest in and influence in the crypto industry.

What role Kamala Harris will play in the crypto world and what her policies will be regarding this sector are eagerly awaited by the crypto community and the wider public in the USA.
