Coinbase Supports Blockchain Developers in Singapore

Coinbase Supports Blockchain Developers in Singapore

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced that it has launched a new initiative to support the local developer ecosystem in Singapore.

As part of this new initiative, Coinbase aims to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region by establishing an engineering center in Singapore that will contribute to local developers and the technology ecosystem.

US-based Coinbase stated that this new center aims to accelerate the development of blockchain technology with education and infrastructure support. In a blog post published on November 6, Coinbase announced that this center was established in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).

This collaboration with EDB is in line with the Singapore government’s approach to technology investments and aims to contribute to Singapore’s goal of becoming a technology hub.

Strengthening the blockchain infrastructure and training local talent in this field are among the important steps that will contribute to the strategic growth of both Coinbase and Singapore in the APAC region.

Through its engineering center in Singapore, Coinbase aims to support local engineers who will develop blockchain-based solutions and grow the on-chain economy. With this move, the company aims to make cryptocurrencies more accessible and suitable for daily financial needs for users in the region.

Philbert Gomez, one of Coinbase executives, as the Digital Sector Manager in Singapore, emphasized that this initiative of Coinbase will contribute to the development of local talents by providing world-class product engineering opportunities in Singapore.

Gomez also stated that this engineering center aims to accelerate the development of the local crypto industry.

Coinbase has more than 600 employees in the APAC region, and 70 of these employees work in Singapore. While the company stated that the new center could increase employment in the country, it refrained from announcing specific targets for this growth.

However, Coinbase’s strategy to expand its operations in Singapore is thought to create more employment and talent development opportunities in the region.

This expansion move coincides with a period when other major US-based cryptocurrency exchanges are also increasing their interest in the APAC region. For example, at the end of October, another major crypto exchange Gemini strengthened its expansion strategy in the Asia-Pacific region by receiving initial approval to obtain a major payment institution license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Gemini’s acquisition of this license is seen as part of its efforts to expand its services in Singapore. These developments support Singapore’s aim to position itself as a major center for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Singapore’s efforts to strengthen its position as an important center hosting innovative technologies in the Asia-Pacific region enable major players such as Coinbase and Gemini to accelerate their investments in this region.

The Singapore government’s regulations in the field of crypto and blockchain increase the attractiveness of the region with its efforts to provide a safe environment for investors and users. Projects such as Coinbase’s engineering center support Singapore in achieving these goals and accelerate the development of blockchain technology.

Coinbase’s new engineering center in Singapore is a strategic move aimed at developing local talent, strengthening blockchain infrastructure and making cryptocurrencies more accessible for everyday financial transactions.

This move also supports Singapore’s ambition to become one of the leading crypto hubs in the APAC region and will help Coinbase create a broader impact in the Asian market.
