Canto Blockchain has been Offline for 33 Hours!

Canto Blockchain has been Offline for 33 Hours!

The Canto blockchain has been offline for a day, and the outage during this time has created concern among users.

As a Cosmos-based layer-1 blockchain, Canto offers an infrastructure designed for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.

Additionally, it has Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, making it compatible with Ethereum-based applications. However, the latest outage shows that there is a serious disruption in Canto’s operation.

The team plans to release an update to fix the outage on August 12. According to the statement made on Canto’s official social media accounts, “a problem with consensus” is shown as the reason for the outage. However, no additional information was provided regarding the details of this issue.

Canto aims to release an update at 12:00 UTC on August 12 to fix the issue and ensure the blockchain works properly.

In blockchains, the consensus mechanism plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of transactions. The consensus mechanism confirms the validity of a transaction and adds it to the blockchain.

The outage experienced by Canto shows that this mechanism is not working properly and therefore transactions cannot be verified. This points to a significant issue affecting the effectiveness of Canto’s blockchain and users’ transactions.

The 33-hour outage of the Canto blockchain caused major disruptions in users’ transactions. According to CantoScan block explorer data, the blockchain has been offline since August 11. The last transaction was block number 10847516, which took place at 2:29 on the morning of August 11.

Etherscan data also shows that there have been no new transactions on Canto in the last 33 hours and only two transactions in the last 46 hours. This data reveals how serious the outage was and how long Canto users were unable to make transactions.

The Callisto update, which was integrated into the Canto blockchain on August 9, is something that needs to be carefully examined to clarify whether there is a possible connection. Canto did not disclose whether the Callisto update was implemented and whether this update was related to the current outage. This uncertainty can be an additional source of concern among users.

Despite the outage, Canto assured its users that their funds were safe and that all functions would continue normally once the chain restarted. The team stated that users should not worry and that the system will return to its old order with the update.

Canto’s plan to switch to the Ethereum Network and turn into a layer-2 network in September 2023 was reversed in March 2024, and Canto remained a layer-1 blockchain. This change of decision may have an impact on Canto’s future strategies and development plans.

According to DefiLlama data, Canto’s blockchain activities increased significantly in February 2023. However, after this date, Canto dropped in the rankings and became the 80th largest blockchain in terms of total locked value. This situation requires more information about Canto’s growth strategies and the competitive situation in the industry.
