Botto's First Exhibition at Sotheby's

Botto's First Exhibition at Sotheby's

Sotheby's attracts attention in the art world with an event where it will exhibit the works of autonomous artist Botto, created by Mario Klingemann in collaboration with ElevenYellow.

This exhibition, titled “Overpriced: Botto, a Decentralized AI Artist”, is held to celebrate Botto’s third anniversary. The auction will start on October 17 and end on October 24. The exhibition will be open to art lovers during gallery hours between 19-23 October.

The six works in the exhibition are estimated at $220,000 to $310,100. Among the works are remarkable pieces such as “Dream Threshold”, “Excessive Price” and “Intersection of Existences”.

Current starting bids range from $9,000 to $70,000. As an artificial intelligence artist, Botto stands out with his ability to produce thousands of images on his own.

The images created autonomously, without human intervention during the creation process of these works, are evaluated by stakeholders, and the works with the most votes are printed and offered for sale.

Botto was first introduced as an AI artist in 2021, and since then his works have begun to sell rapidly on the NFT marketplace OpenSea. Moreover, some of his works attracted great attention, selling for up to 11.99 Ethereum.

Klingemann, the creator of Botto, states that he is proud of the success and fame Botto has achieved; However, he also states that it is a source of jealousy for him that his own work is being auctioned at Sotheby’s.

“Botto has achieved a feat that many artists, and myself, still haven’t ticked off my personal list,” says Klingemann.

Botto’s working style goes beyond simply creating an image. Botto produces thousands of images by developing his own directions.

In this process, they interact with a community of stakeholders to select the images that receive the most votes, which are then printed and offered for sale.

To date, more than 15,000 people have contributed to Botto’s development, influencing the theme, style and visuality of the work.

This exhibition at Sotheby’s is considered an important step at a time when AI art is still a controversial issue. Botto thinks that this exhibition is an event that validates AI art and emphasizes that the exhibition offers a dialogue to question the line between human and machine in the creative process.

“This screening is an opportunity to challenge audiences to rethink their preconceptions about the future of creativity, technology, and artistic expression,” says Botto.

This exhibition not only showcases Botto’s works, but also encourages a broader discussion on AI art. Botto’s works raise important questions about the future of art and the role of technology.

Therefore, this event at Sotheby’s offers an intriguing opportunity for artists and art lovers alike, encouraging deep reflection on the evolution of AI art.
