Aptos Sets a New Record in Blockchain Transactions!
Aptos, a layer-1 blockchain platform developed by former employees of Facebook, has set a new record in blockchain transactions. On May 25, Aptos surpassed Solana by recording a staggering 115.4 million transactions in a single day, significantly surpassing Solana's 31.7 million, according to Aptoscan. The increase in transaction volume not only broke previous records, but also exceeded Sui Network's L1 record of over 65 million by an impressive over 50%.
The exponential growth in transactional activity on Aptos highlights the increasing adoption of the platform and the overall momentum of the industry. According to data from Aptoscan, the blockchain’s user TPS (number of transactions) reached an all-time high of 32,000 on the same day. This shows a significant increase in activity in the blockchain ecosystem, demonstrating the scalability and robustness of the platform.
The recent increase in transactional activity on Aptos can be attributed to the launch of Tapos Cat, an innovative click-to-earn game that is rapidly gaining popularity. Tapos Cat processed a staggering 10 million transactions in its first day on the mainnet, a significant contribution to the increased activity on the platform. Tapos Cat encourages multiple in-game transactions by offering users the opportunity to earn $HEART tokens by “tickling” a virtual cat. Additionally, the game offers a gas fee-free experience for the first 72 hours to encourage players without any additional fees.
Critics, including the CEO of Helius Labs, have raised questions about Tapos Cat’s long-term viability and practical utility. They argue that the game’s emphasis on click and purchase interactions can artificially inflate metrics without truly serving user needs.
But Aptos advocates argue that Tapos Cat serves as a significant engineering project that demonstrates the scalability and robustness of the Aptos network while paving the way for future developments. In another move, the Aptos Labs team recently introduced a group of global advisors, including David Lawee, former vice president of corporate development at Google. Additionally, Aptos Labs has teamed up with Atomrigs Lab to announce plans for the launch of T wallet, a Web3 wallet service in partnership with South Korean telecommunications operator SK Telecom (SKT).
Solana proved to be the fastest among major blockchains, processing 91 million transactions in a single day. On April 6, Solana averaged a record 1,504 transactions per second (TPS) during the memecoin craze. This makes the blockchain 46x faster than Ethereum and 5x faster than Polygon among the Ethereum scaling solutions with the highest TPS.
Despite its position as the fastest blockchain, Solana only reached 1.6% of its theoretical maximum speed of 65,000 TPS. It is important to note that Ethereum scaling solutions and layer 2 solutions have not yet surpassed other layer 1 blockchains in terms of actual transaction speed. This can be attributed to the lower number of on-chain transactions in Ethereum scaling solutions, resulting in slower realized TPS for these blockchains.
