This training was announced on November 22 as part of a broader OSCE project to investigate crimes related to virtual assets. The training brought together 12 officials from the National Securities and Exchange Market Commission of Ukraine, providing information on how to monitor illegal activities on blockchain networks.

The training focused on the fundamentals of blockchain technology, classification of crypto assets, and review methods on blockchain transactions. This program was part of a large-scale OSCE project funded by Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The project aims to help participating countries manage risks related to virtual assets more effectively. In particular, it aims to strengthen the capacity of countries to prevent money laundering and other financial crimes.

The OSCE states that criminal activities in blockchain networks are rapidly increasing and emphasizes that crypto assets offer the ability to make cross-border and instant transactions. Cryptocurrencies have features that can facilitate crimes that are difficult to monitor and control in the digital environment.

This creates both an attractive environment for criminals and major challenges for regulators. In this context, the OSCE aims to ensure that countries better understand crypto assets and blockchain technology and develop effective control methods for them.

Ukrainian officials participating in the training program gained in-depth knowledge about various methods on blockchain and crypto transactions. In the training, basic topics such as how blockchain technology works, how to monitor transactions on the blockchain and how to identify crypto assets were discussed.

These capabilities will give authorities the ability to more effectively detect and respond to crimes committed with digital assets.

As crypto markets grow rapidly and become more complex, new challenges arise for regulators. Therefore, having an in-depth knowledge of blockchain and crypto assets is critical to combating crypto crimes.

The OSCE, together with authorities in Ukraine, plans to organize similar trainings in other countries in the region. The trainings aim to understand how criminals use blockchain technology and how they can be detected. In this way, it is expected that crimes will be prevented more effectively in the crypto world through international cooperation and information sharing.

Such OSCE training programs help countries develop a stronger regulatory approach towards crypto and blockchain technologies.

The ability to monitor criminal activity on blockchain networks represents an important step towards both national security and financial stability on a global level. This type of training creates a solid foundation for combating future virtual asset-related crimes.
