Access Block to 108 Crypto Sites

Access Block to 108 Crypto Sites

The Capital Markets Board (CMB) announced that it will initiate a legal process to block access to 108 websites that were found to provide unauthorized crypto asset service providers and foreign leveraged transactions.

In the CMB’s weekly bulletin, it was stated that legal proceedings will be initiated against the websites that are determined to be operating as unauthorized crypto asset service providers to people residing in Turkey and the sites that facilitate leveraged transactions abroad.

In this context, necessary steps will be taken to prevent access in accordance with the fourth paragraph of Article 99 of the Capital Markets Law.

CMB’s blocking decisions are based on the relevant articles of the Capital Markets Law No. 6362:

  • Article 99/A

The Board may decide to remove the content of internet broadcasts and/or block access in the following cases:

    • Announcements, advertisements or announcements made over the internet are contrary to the principles determined by the Board,

    • Providing investment consultancy and/or portfolio management for crypto assets without permission,

    • Carrying out crypto asset service provider activities without permission.

  • Article 99/4

    • In case of unauthorized collection of money from the public through crowdfunding platforms or unauthorized derivative instrument transactions such as leveraged transactions, the Board may decide to block access.

CMB also shared the list of websites subject to the blocking decision with the public. Here is that list:

The list includes 108 websites that were found to be operating without permission.

CMB aims to require foreign-based crypto platforms to comply with legal standards to operate in Turkey. In this regard, strict inspections and regulations are implemented to both protect investors and maintain order in the markets.

The access blocking process will be carried out in accordance with the procedures specified in the legal framework and the decisions will be forwarded to the Access Providers Association. This step by the CMB aims to stop the activities of unauthorized crypto asset service providers and increase security in the sector.
